Novak Đoković na udaru sramnih kritika

As a reminder, the Minister for Immigration Affairs, Alex Hawke, used his right and revoked the visa of our tennis player, which automatically meant the deportation of Novak from Melbourne.

Now, Senator Kristina Keneally, who is acting as a shadow minister, has jumped into the whole story, and among other things, it concerns immigration issues, so she sharply criticised the Morrison government:

- But, there are many unanswered questions about exactly how Mr Morrison will reopen the borders safely, including how the vaccination status of travellers will be determined. The Novak Djokovic saga showed us jus how vulnerable our borders have become, with 30-years of visa management turned on its head as the Morrison Government handballs Australian Border Force officers the responsibility to assess travellee vaccination status at the border, instead of the paperwork being assessed much earlier as part of the visa application process - Senator Keneally wrote.

- Today, Minister Andrews couldn't explain how Australian Border Force officers, who are only given about 30 to 40 seconds per traveller at the border to assess a traveller's credentials, could possibly decipher complex vaccination documentation  without border waiting times blowing out at our airports.

Novak's visa was revoked by the Australian Border Force, and he was then transferred to a real "hotel of horrors", in order for the court to initially challenge that decision, before Minister Alex Hawke decided to voluntarily revoke the same visa and return the entire process to court.

Senator Keneally also spoke on the subject:

- If the Morrison Government's approach is a new normal, friends and family of Australian citizens, tourists and skilled workers with government-issued visas could arrive in the country, then go through being turned away because the Government couldn't be bothered to check their vaccination status before they were issued a visa or got on a plane.

- Until Mr Morrison stops constantly prioritising headlines over developing a clear and safe plan to reopen our borders, Australian families and businesses won't be able to plan for a better future - Kristina Keneally concluded.
