Vladimir Putin proglasio priznao Lugansku Narodnu Republiku kao nezavisnu državu

Although the eyes of the world and of the public in Serbia are focused on Eastern Europe, where the ordinary world is uncertainly waiting for a further unfolding of events after Vladimir Putin's decision to recognise Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states, few know that Luhansk was founded by Serbian emigrants.

It all happened more than two and a half centuries ago, when Empress Elizabeth of Russia entrusted this country to the management of the Serbs by a decree from 1753, as a sign of gratitude for her contribution to the war against the Tatars.

According to reliable historical information, which was often witnessed by the locals of Luhansk and historical monuments, a portion of the Serbian exiles moved to the northeast during the Great Migration, and the final destination they reached was Donetsk and Luhansk.

This whole area was called Slovianoserbsk, which means New Serbia, and a town not far from Luhansk which still exists today was named Slovianoserbsk.

On the 250th anniversary of its founding, a monument was erected in this place, which is a reliable historical testimony to the connection between the Serbian, Russian and Ukrainian people.

The monument features a Russian and Ukrainian Cossacks, as well as a Serbian soldier.

It is also worth mentioning that the famous Serbian writer Miloš Crnjanski in his brilliant book "Seobe" (Migrations) also wrote, among other things, about Serbs who found themselves in the far east of Europe due to a combination of historical circumstances.
