Among those arrested are the sheikh, the doctor and the husband of the deceased woman.

Police said that they received a report on Saturday about a woman (26) who was admitted to a clinic in the southern city of Tel Sheva, where doctors declared her dead.

An investigation was launched, and her body was sent for an autopsy.

According to Channel 12 news, the woman was not feeling well and went for a treatment to a Bedouin sheikh, who "practices witchcraft". The sheikh then performed an "exorcism ceremony", the report states.

During the ceremony, the woman collapsed, and the doctor was called to come to the scene, before she was taken to the hospital.

The three suspects (64, 32 and 25 years old), all from Tel Sheva, appeared in court on Monday afternoon, reports the Times of Israel.

According to Channel 12, the oldest is a sheikh, and the 32-year-old is a doctor. The youngest arrested is allegedly the husband of the deceased.

Moti Yosef, the husband's lawyer, denied his client's involvement in the woman's death.

- My client does not know what happened during the treatment, except for the fact that he took her alive there, but unfortunately she returned dead. He has nothing to do with her death. This is a tragedy - the lawyer said.

Over the years, there have been reports of numerous Palestinians dying during alleged exorcisms, AFP reports.

A young Palestinian died in 2015 after being brutally beaten during an exorcism in the city of Hebron. The family of a 19-year-old with mental illness called two "healers", a man and a woman, who beat the young man to drive out "evil spirits", said a source from the police.

According to Al-Monitor, a 17-year-old girl from Palestine died during an exorcism in February 2014, after a "healer" poured a mixture of salt water down her throat.

Others reported exorcisms which ended in the deaths of two Palestinian women with mental health problems in 2011 and 1998.
