NOVAK'S NUMBER ONE RANKING IS SAFE UNTIL THIS DATE! Medvedev can still jeopardise his position!

Serbian tennis player Novak Djoković has cemented his number one position on the ATP list by beating Italy's Matteo Berrettini in the US Open quarterfinals. This victory brought Novak some added "benefits" and further points in his race against the second-placed, Russian Daniil Medvedev.

Novak Djoković has yet another chance to write on the pages of history

It means that Djoković has secured his top position at least until 1 November and definitely until the beggining of the Paris Masters tournament.

This also means that even at this point he has increased his record of the number of weeks spent at the top of the ATP list to 344.

As a reminder, if Djoković wins the US Open finals and secures both the trophy and the Grand Slam, he will also complete the season as world's number one tennis player.

In the US Open finals he will be playing against Russia's Daniil Medvedev. On his way to the final match, Djoković defeated the fourth-placed Alexander Zverev, while Medvedev raced to the finals by beating the Canadian tennis player Felix Auger Aliassime in the semi.
